A Canadian Plane Caught On Fire During A Crash Landing At The Airport But No One Was Injured

An Air Canada plane caught fire during a crash landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Nova Scotia on Saturday, Dec. 28.

No injuries were reported.

Flight AC2259, which departed from St. John's, Newfoundland, skidded down the runway for a "decent" distance while flames erupted on the left side of the aircraft at around 9:30 pm local time.

“The plane shook quite a bit and we started seeing fire on the left side of the plane and smoke started coming in the windows,” Nikki Valentine, a passenger on the plane, told AP.

An Air Canada spokesperson told AP that the plane, which was carrying 73 passengers along with crew members, had experienced a "suspected landing gear issue" when it arrived at the airport.

He said the plane was unable to reach the terminal so the crew and passengers were taken to the terminal by bus.

The incident forced the airport to close for about 90 minutes, Halifax airport authorities said.

Authorities said the incident will be investigated.

The crash landing happened just hours after a Jeju Airlines plane crashed in South Korea without its landing gear, killing almost all 181 passengers.
