Controversial misogynistic British influencer Andrew Tate has been detained for 30 days in Romania over alleged human trafficking and rape.
36-year-old Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested on Thursday Dec. 29, just a day after 19-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg completely destroyed Tate for picking a fight with her on Twitter.
“Hello @GretaThunberg. I have 33 cars. My Bugatti has a w16 8.0L quad turbo. My TWO Ferrari 812 competizione have 6.5L v12s. This is just the start,” Tate tweeted. “Please provide your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions.”
Thunberg then quote tweeted his tweet and wrote, “yes, please do enlighten me. email me at mailto:smalldickenergy@getalife.com.”
Tate then posted a video rant in response to Thunberg’s viral tweet.
In the video, he asks for someone to hand him pizza and make sure the boxes were “not recycled.”
A rumor then suggested the pizza boxes, which came from a chain in Romania, had disclosed his location and led to his arrest.
Tate, a former kickboxer, was banned from several social media platforms for misogynistic comments and hate speech.
Tate, his brother and two other Romanian men were detained for allegedly being part of an organized crime group that recruited women, sexually exploited them and then forced them to perform pornographic acts for profit, AP reported.
Following the news of his arrest, Thunberg tweeted, “This is what happens when you don’t recycle your pizza boxes” and went viral again.
The tweet gaining more than 492,000 retweet and 3.5 million likes.
Romanian authorities have since said the pizza boxes did not lead to his arrest. A spokesperson said the rumor was “funny, but no,” AP reported.
