The Best Looks From Asia Stars At The 2023 Met Gala
From “Blackpink” singer Jennie Kim’s stunning Met Gala debut to Oscar winners Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huay Quan, here are some of the best looks from Asian stars at the 2023 Met Gala.
Stars were aligned at this year’s Met Gala, celebrating the life and legacy of German-born fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.
Held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute annually on the first Monday in May, the Met Gala marks the opening of each year’s grand fashion exhibit and invites a meticulously-arranged list of guests to a banquet gathering and a preview of the exhibit.
This year, the theme is all about Karl Lagerfeld and his long-lasting influence on fashion. Lagerfeld, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 85, was one of the most renowned, prolific, but also controversial designers within the industry, and at the end of his life and career, held the creative director title at three fashion brands all at the same time. This included Chanel, Fendi, and his eponymous brand.
This year’s “The Oscars of fashion” saw a number of Asian performers and celebrities taking on the red carpet, including Everything Everywhere All At Once stars Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, K-pop star Jennie from Blackpink, Olympic skier Eileen Gu, as well as Lagerfeld’s muse — supermodel Devon Aoki, and more.
All eyes were on how these stars interpreted the dress code. While some arrived on the red carpet dressed in Lagerfeld’s past designs, some donned outfits that were inspired by his signature dressing style, which included a white dress shirt with detachable collars, a black pair of suit and tie, fingerless gloves and dark sunglasses.
