This 16-Year-Old British Trans Girl Was Found Murdered In A Park And People Want Justice
Brianna Ghey’s friends said she had been bullied at school for being transgender.
Brianna Ghey, a 16-year-old transgender girl, has died after she was stabbed while at a park near her home in Cheshire, England, on Saturday Feb 11.
Residents found Ghey lying on a path at Linear Park in Warrington at 3:13 p.m. and called the paramedics, who pronounced her dead at the scene.
The police have arrested two suspects, a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, according to a statement released on Sunday.
The suspects remain under custody and the police have yet to confirm the motives of the murder.
“At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that the circumstances surrounding Brianna’s death are hate related,” police said.
Friends have said Brianna had been bullied at school for being transgender, according to a report from The Sun.
Her school has denied to comment on bullying allegations.
Meanwhile, Ghey’s family has said her death has “left a massive hole” in their lives.
“Brianna was… a larger than life character who would leave a lasting impression on all that met her. Brianna was beautiful, witty and hilarious. Brianna was strong, fearless and one of a kind,” her family said in a statement.
Ghey was active on social media and her TikTok account, which has since been deleted, amassed more than 31,000 followers, according to Teen Vogue.
People have taken to social media to demand justice for Brianna and more protections for transgender children.
“Brianna deserved a chance to become a beautiful adult woman, and to live to see a world where trans people are safe and respected,” UK’s youngest MP, Nadia Whittome, wrote on Twitter.
Due to UK’s gender laws, Brianna’s death certificate will most likely be misgendered.
