BTS’ Jin Has Finished South Korea’s Military Service And Celebrated In The Most Wholesome Way
On the day, the other members of BTS, who are still fulfilling their service, took leave to celebrate with him.
31-year-old K-pop megastar Jin (Kim Seok-jin), the eldest member of South Korean boy band BTS, officially fulfilled his mandatory military service on Wednesday, June 12, making him the first in the band to be discharged.
Jin was the first member of BTS to enlist in December 2022, with the last four members starting their service in December 2023.
During his service, Jin was recognized as a “Special Class Warrior” (elite soldier) due to his outstanding performance.
The honor is awarded to soldiers who achieve elite ratings in seven tests, including running, sit-ups, shooting, individual combat and first aid.
The band’s management company, BIGHIT MUSIC, asked fans to refrain from gathering to greet Jin upon his discharge, due to the large number of soldiers being discharged and for safety reasons.
On the day, the other members of BTS, who are still fulfilling their service, took leave to celebrate with him.
Band leader RM, who is currently serving in the military band, brought along a saxophone and played the band’s song, “Dynamite”, as they greeted Jin at facility.
“I cried during the ceremony,” Jin mentioned in a live-stream afterwards. “But it was so fun for the last year and six months. It’s such a relief; I met so many amazing people.”
BTS’ official social media account also posted a photo of the seven members together after the live stream.
The next day, which marked the 11th anniversary of BTS’ debut, Jin attended and performed at the 2024 Festa in Seoul, an annual event celebrating the band’s debut.
During the event, Jin held a meet-and-greet and hugged 1,000 fans.
He then performed some of his tracks, including “Super Tuna”, “The Astronaut” and “Moon”.
Afterwards, he took part in a mukbang segment inspired by his nickname “EATJIN”.
The members are expected to reunite as a group again around 2025 following their respective service commitments.
