BTS’ Jin Has Completed His Basic Training As Part Of South Korea’s Mandatory Military Service
“I’m having fun,” Jin wrote on Weverse.
Jin, the oldest member of K-pop boy band BTS, has shared his first photos from military service after completing five weeks of basic training as part of South Korea’s mandatory service.
On Wednesday Jan. 18, 30-year-old Jin posted three photos of him in military uniform at the recruit training center of the 5th Infantry Division on the Korean social media Weverse.
This is his first post since he enlisted last month.
“I’m having fun. I’m posting a photo with permission from the military,” the superstar wrote.
“Army, always be happy and take care,” he added.
Jin, whose real name is Kim Seok-jin, enlisted in the military on Dec. 13, 2022, as an active duty soldier.
With training complete, he will now serve as an assistant instructor at the Yeoncheon army base in northern Gyeonggi province, according to the South Korean military, CNN reported.
All able-bodied South Korean men aged between 18 and 28 must serve in the military for about 20 months.
Jin is the first member in BTS to enlist.
The band had postponed mandatory military service until they turned 30 after South Korea changed its law in 2020 to allow globally recognized K-pop stars to defer their service.
BTS’ members are expected to reconvene as a group again around 2025 following their respective service commitments.
