The Daughter Of Cameroon’s President Defied The Country’s Ban On Same-Sex Relationships And Shared A Photo Of Her Kissing Her Girlfriend

The daughter of Cameroon’s president defied the country’s ban on same-sex relationships and shared a photo of her kissing her girlfriend.
26-year-old Brenda Biya is the daughter of 91-year-old Paul Biya, who has been Cameroon’s president since 1982 and is one of Africa’s longest-ruling leaders.
Same-sex relationships are illegal in Cameroon, and those found guilty could face up to 5 years in prison.
Biya, who is based abroad as a musician, shared the photo of her and her girlfriend, Brazilian model Layyons Valença, on June 30, the last day of pride month.
In her caption, Biya wrote that she was crazy about her girlfriend and wants the world to know.
Her actions have been praised by some, including prominent Cameroonian trans influencer and activist Shakiro, who sought asylum in Belgium after she was jailed for “attempted homosexuality”.
Others, meanwhile, have pointed out that it highlighted the harsh reality that only the privileged can come out in Cameroon without facing severe consequences.
The government and the president have yet to officially comment on the photo.
