A Giant Bridge In China Collapsed Just Months After Opening Due To A Landslide
A landslide caused the 758-meter-long Hongqi bridge, which connected central China to Tibet, to collapse.
A bridge in China has collapsed just months after being finished following a massive landslide.
On Monday, Nov. 10, authorities closed down the 758-meter-long Hongqi bridge, which was part of a highway that connected central China to Tibet, after inspection revealed the terrain around the bridge had shifted, according to Reuters.
On Tuesday afternoon, the mountainside continued to show signs of shifting, eventually triggering a landslide that caused parts of the bridge to collapse onto the river below.
The shocking moment was shared online, showing the landslide wiping out the bridge, creating a cloud of dust.
Authorities have reported no casualties.
Chinese people have both praised the authorities for the quick evacuation, but also questioned whether the construction process was not properly planned out, according to the Straits Times.
