The attacker had reportedly pretended to be delivering a gift to Estupiñán and shot her in the face when she went to greet him.

Police said that Estupiñán had previously reported her ex-boyfriend for domestic violence in 2018 and had just attended a hearing a day earlier.

The court had ordered her ex-boyfriend to pay her a compensation of 30 million pesos, or about US$7,000.

Police said they are treating the case as a possible femicide, which is the murder of a woman due to her gender.

Her murder sparked widespread outrage, with women’s rights groups saying that the government had failed to protect her even after she reported violence.

A woman is murdered every 28 hours in Colombia, according to local women’s rights group Mujer, Denuncia y Muévete, but estimates say the actual situation could be even worse.
