Cuba Has Passed A Law That Will Make It Easier For Trans People To Change Their Legal Gender
Trans people in Cuba would no longer need to undergo surgery to change their legal gender.

Cuba has now made it easier for trans people to change their legal gender.

On July 18, Cuba’s parliament passed a law that will allow trans people over the age of 18 to change their legal gender without needing to undergo surgery.

In 2008, Cuba became the first country in Latin America to offer gender-affirming surgeries as part of its public healthcare.

However, the process could take years as people have to go through a series of evaluations to be able to undergo the surgery.

Also, not many people were able to undergo the surgery due to a shortage in medical supplies because due to economic sanctions from the US.

LGBTQ activists have welcomed the move, saying it is a step forward in fighting discrimination against the LGBTQ community after Cuba legalized same-sex marriage in 2022.
