Dogs and cats in Dubai are now able to enjoy premium dinners and desserts at the first cafe exclusively meant to cater to their tastes.
Happy Bark Day was opened by 38-year-old South Korean nutritionist Hyunsuk Ku in December 2021.
With a background in pet nutrition and a certification as a pet bakery chef, she has been inspired to create healthy food for dogs and cats.
In fact, it was after her dog Maum fell ill that she decided to pursue pet nutrition.
“I’m very passionate about my dog’s nutrition, I think all dog owners’ wish is for their dogs to live as long as possible,” the cafe owner told Reuters.
“One day I was thinking – there are many places for humans, restaurants, why there is no restaurant for dogs?… So I thought – let’s make one for them.”
Through thorough research, she has created a menu of delicious and healthy birthday cakes, cappuccinos, and ice cream dishes.
“I think that’s really good because it’s healthy for him, and it’s not like a treat, it’s a full meal,” one pet owner told Reuters.
Meals can cost up to US$20 and some cakes can be as expensive as US$55.
Ku hopes that one day she will be able to open more branches across the UAE.
