Fiji Has Opened An Embassy In Jerusalem Despite Israel Committing Genocide In Gaza
The Palestinian foreign ministry condemned Fiji's move as "an assault against the Palestinian people and a blatant violation of international law and legitimate international resolutions".

Fiji has opened an embassy in Jerusalem, becoming the second Pacific nation to do so despite Israel committing genocide in Gaza.
Most countries have kept their Israeli embassies in Tel Aviv due to Jerusalem’s disputed status under international law.
After the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, Jerusalem was separated, with Israel controlling West Jerusalem and Jordan controlling East Jerusalem.
In 1967, during the Six-Day War, Israel took control over East Jerusalem and has been illegally occupying the region ever since, a move the UN has declared illegal and “null and void”, according to Al Jazeera.
Palestinians see East Jerusalem as their future capital, but Israel has expanded its illegal settlements in East Jerusalem, expelling thousands of Palestinians from their homes.
On Wednesday, Sept. 17, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended the inauguration and praised Fiji for putting its embassy in Jerusalem.
“And the fact that you have come here, and you have put your embassy in Jerusalem, and you recognize a truth that everybody should recognize, but you, few governments have so far, that this has been our capital for 3,000 years since the days of King David,” he told Fiji’s prime minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
The Palestinian foreign ministry condemned Fiji's move as "an assault against the Palestinian people and a blatant violation of international law and legitimate international resolutions", warning it would undermine progress for a two-state solution, according to Anadolu.
Fiji is now the seventh country to open an embassy in Jerusalem after the US, Guatemala, Honduras, Kosovo, Paraguay and Papua New Guinea.
