Thousands Of Palestinians In Gaza Held A Rare Protest, Calling For An End To The War And Hamas To Leave

Thousands of Palestinians are holding rare protests in Gaza, calling for an end to more than 18 months of the war and Hamas’ rule.
On Wednesday, March 26, nearly 3,000 Palestinians marched through the destroyed streets of Beit Lahia in north Gaza, chanting "We refuse to die," and "Stop the war," demanding an end to the war that has killed more than 50,208 Palestinians.
Some of the protesters also called for an end to Hamas’ rule over Gaza, chanting anti-Hamas slogans, such as "Out, out, out, Hamas out."
Families in southern Gaza released a statement saying people are being “pushed towards destruction without mercy or responsibility.”
“The people of Gaza will not accept that we remain fuel for narrow calculations and they will not allow this farce to continue. Enough with our lives and the future of our children. Enough with disregarding our suffering. Hamas must lift its hand from Gaza immediately, and end this unjust blockade imposed on us because of decisions that do not represent us,” the statement said.
Senior Hamas official Bassem Naim wrote on Facebook that people had the right to protest but that their focus should be on the “criminal aggressor,” Israel, saying that some parties are trying to divert these protests to serve Israel's agenda.
North Gaza has been one of the most devastated parts in Gaza by Israel’s genocide.
Israel has besieged north Gaza, cutting it off from the rest of the strip, blocking all aid, food and water from entering, while conducting intense ground operations that killed thousands of people since Oct. 6, 2024 and untill Jan. 19, when Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire.
However, Israel unilaterally ended the ceasefire and resumed its attacks across the strip on March 18, killing more than 400 Palestinians in less than 24 hours.
It had refused to implement phase two of the ceasefire deal, which was supposed to begin on March 1, saying that Hamas must now accept a US deal that was not part of the original ceasefire deal and would involve extending phase one of the ceasefire by 50 days and Hamas releasing all the Israeli hostages.
Since then, Israel has killed at least 855 Palestinians, including 200 children.
