Babies In Gaza Are Freezing To Death From Being Forced To Live In Tents In Extremely Cold Temperatures In Winter
Aid groups say the deaths are preventable and directly linked to the conditions families are being forced to live in.
Ten children have died from extreme cold in Gaza as Palestinians experience a very cold winter living in tents or damaged buildings with little protection from rain and wind.

Families have been living without heating or reliable shelter through the winter as a result of Israel’s genocide as temperatures fall to between 6 and 11˚C.

A storm with heavy rain and strong winds caused walls and shelters to collapse across Gaza on Monday, Jan. 13, killing at least five people.
On Saturday, Jan. 17, Gaza’s health ministry said a 27-day-old baby, Aisha Ayesh al-Agha, died from hypothermia.
Her parents took her to Nasser hospital in Khan Younis where they were unable to save her, the Guardian reported.

Three days later, on Tuesday, Jan. 20, a three-month-old baby named Shaza Abu Jarad also died from hypothermia after being exposed to freezing overnight temperatures while living in a temporary shelter.
So far, 10 children are confirmed to have died from cold exposure this winter.
On Wednesday, Jan. 11, Palestinian authorities reported that 21 displaced Palestinians, 18 of them children, had died from extreme cold exposure since the start of the war.

Aid groups say the deaths are preventable and directly linked to the conditions families are being forced to live in.

The International Rescue Committee said winter storms had exposed how unsafe displacement camps have become, with tents collapsing within minutes.
