As The Ceasefire Began, Journalists Remaining In Gaza Gathered Again To Sing "We Will Stay Here”
This is the second time journalists in Gaza have gathered to sing “We Will Stay Here” as a symbol of resilience against Israel’s attacks.
With the ceasefire officially in place, journalists in Gaza gathered to sing the song, “We Will Stay Here,” to mark an end of fighting after 15 months of war.
Journalist Saleh AlJafarwawi shared the video on Saturday, Jan. 18, on his Instagram account writing, “The war has ended, but our love for Palestine never has and never will.”
This is the second time journalists in Gaza have gathered to sing “We Will Stay Here” as a symbol of resilience against Israel’s attacks.
Earlier on Dec. 4, 2023, as Israel launched one of its most intense bombings and attacks across the Gaza Strip following the collapse of a seven-day pause, numerous Palestinian journalists in Gaza gathered together to sing the song.
The song was written by a Libyan doctor in 2005 and became a protest anthem across multiple countries during the Arab Spring in 2011, according to Al Jazeera.
Israel has killed at least 203 journalists since Oct. 7, 2023, according to Gaza’s media office.
The first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which includes a halt in fighting and a hostage exchange, began on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 11:15 am local time after delays and should last six weeks.
However, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel has the right to resume fighting during the second phase of the deal with the US' support.
Since then, Hamas has released the first three Israeli women hostages — Romi Gonen, 24, Emily Damari, 28, and Doron Shtanbar Khair, 31.
