Since Oct. 7, 2023, journalists in Gaza have been fiercely and relentlessly reporting Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
They have been deprived of food, sleep and shelter and displaced several times.
Some have lost their entire families and some have been killed as they have been systematically and deliberately targeted, attacked and killed by Israeli forces.
And many are still risking their lives every day.
They include Bisan Owda, who has become known for her opening line, “I am Bisan, and I'm still alive.”
Hind Khoudary, who has been reporting every day from the streets, hospitals, schools, camps, and even on the killings of her journalist friends and colleagues.
Khames Alrefi, whose videos on the ground have shown the most horrific massacres.
And many more journalists who have risked everything every day to show the world the truth of Israel's genocide in Gaza.
Since Oct. 7, Israel has killed at least 176 journalists in Gaza, murdering at least five intentionally, making it the deadliest period for journalists, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).
At least five journalists were directly targeted by Israeli forces and murdered.
The Israeli military has destroyed numerous media offices and facilities in Gaza and forcibly shut down others, including both of Al Jazeera's offices in Gaza and The West Bank.
At least 73 media offices have been partially or completely destroyed, contributing to a broader strategy to silence journalists from reporting Israel’s genocide in Gaza, according to the Intercept.
“My role and the role of the rest of the journalists in Gaza is to document our stories and the stories of our people, and your role is to put an end to this genocide,” – Bisan Owda.
Journalists are civilians. Deliberately targeting them is considered a war crime under international war crime.
