A Village For Orphans In Gaza Held A Mass Graduation Ceremony For 1,000 Orphans To Bring Them Hope
Al-Wafaa Orphan Village was opened in January 2025 to help orphaned children who lost one or both parents in Israel's ongoing genocide.

In an event mixed with both joy and tears, 1,000 orphaned Palestinian children in Gaza have graduated in a mass graduation ceremony at Al-Wafaa Orphan Village.
Dr. Wafaa Abu Jalala opened Al-Wafaa Orphan Village in January 2025 to help educate orphaned children whose learning has been disrupted by Israel’s bombardment.
Most of the children at the school have lost one or both their parents in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza that has killed more than 62,122 people.
The village offers a safe and nurturing environment designed to help children recover from the trauma of war.
It provides educational opportunities, psychological and social support and various activities aimed at helping children regain their innocence, freedom to play and the warmth of a family and also helps the children to cope with fear, anxiety and trauma through rehabilitation programs.
The ceremony on Monday, Aug. 18, marked the first graduation ceremony since Al-Wafaa Orphan Village opened to give hope to the children in the depths of despair.
The ceremony was filled with joy and hope, but many children were overwhelmed with emotions and couldn’t hold back their tears.
More than 44,537 children in Gaza have lost one or both parents since Oct. 7, 2023.
Israel has damaged or destroyed nearly 97% of educational facilities in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, and at least 785,000 students have been deprived of education.
