World Children’s Day 2024
Gaza is now the deadliest place on earth to be a child, according to Save the Children.
It has been over a year since Israel began its genocide in Gaza and it is children who are paying the heaviest price.
On World Children’s Day, children in Gaza are being deprived of their childhood, facing relentless suffering and violence.
Israel’s genocide has taken an unimaginable toll on children, leaving scars that will last a lifetime. What people can’t bear to watch, children in Gaza are living every day.
Since Oct. 7, 2023, Israel has killed at least 17,000 children in Gaza, many under the age of two, and wounded 12,000 others with life-altering injuries.
Doctors, nurses and paramedics who volunteered in Gaza have all shared testimonies of their harrowing experiences of treating children in Gaza, many of whom were shot in the head; they have spoken about how the Israeli military is deliberately and systematically targeting children.
UNICEF has warned that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has pushed children to the brink of starvation, with malnutrition rates soaring.
Children are also being deprived of an education, with schools turned into shelters, more than 80% of schools destroyed and Gaza’s education system rendered non-existent from the genocide.
In addition to physical violence, children have been detained or kidnapped by Israeli forces, with some thrown into unmarked or mass graves or maimed beyond recognition, according to Save the Children.
Israel is also attacking children in the occupied West Bank, killing at least 143 children since Oct. 7, 2023. This is an average of a child being killed every two days, according to UNICEF.
