People in Georgia are holding mass protests after the government suspended talks to join the EU until 2028.
The protest has been ongoing for four days as of Dec. 2, with police violently cracking down on protesters with water cannons and tear gas and arresting at least 220 people.
On Nov. 28, Georgia’s prime minister said it will pause EU talks until 2028.
This comes after the EU rejected the country's election results from October, when Georgian Dream, the pro-Russia ruling party, won for the fourth time in a row.
The EU called for new elections in a year after reports of electoral fraud.
Since it took power in 2012, Georgian Dream has pushed Georgia towards Russia and adopted increasingly authoritarian measures
Like Russia, it banned same-sex marriage and adoption and changing genders.
In May, it adopted a Russian-like law that can be used to crack down on opposition that led the EU to suspend Georgia’s membership application in June.
Thousands took to the streets in the capital, Tbilisi, to protest the decision.
Police fired tear gas and water cannons against protesters.
The government said police arrested more than 100 people.
More than 100 Georgian diplomats signed an open letter against suspending EU talks.
85% of Georgians either fully or somewhat support joining the EU.
