German Lawmakers Protested The Parliament Banning The LGBTQ Flag By Dressing Up In Rainbow Colors
“The more colorful the parliament is, the better,”

German lawmakers protested the parliament banning the LGBTQ flag during Christopher Street Day celebrations by dressing up in the colors of the rainbow.
The protest followed a decision by the newly appointed Bundestag director, Martin Göttke, who banned raising the Pride flag on the Parliament building over the “duty of neutrality”, stating the government will not participate in the political demonstrations and public gatherings.
Christopher Street Day (CSD) is an annual LGBTQ celebration held in cities across Europe to promote equality and LGBTQ rights, making it one of the largest LGBTQ festivals on the continent.

Since 1979, Berlin has hosted one of Europe’s most prominent CSD events, drawing hundreds of thousands of participants from across Germany and around the world each year.

In July 2022, the Reichstag Palace, where the parliament is located, raised the rainbow flag for the first time, marking a historic moment in LGBTQ visibility, but this year, the flag will be absent.
In protest, lawmakers of the Green and Left parties dressed up in Pride colors at a Bundestag session about “anti-LGBTQ hate crimes” on Thursday, June 26, to speak out against discrimination and violence toward LGBTQ communities.
“The more colorful the parliament is, the better,” the spokesperson for queer politics for the Greens said.
The 47th Berlin CSD parade will take place on Saturday, July 26.
