Police in Germany violently attacked women protesters on International Women’s Day as they protested against Israel’s genocide in Gaza
On Saturday, March 8, hundreds of women gathered in Berlin in protest to show solidarity with Palestinian women living under Israeli occupation.
Videos on social media showed German police violently using batons on the women protesters and punching them.
In another video, several police officers were seen restraining a woman on the ground and then choking her.
Police also arrested at least 28 people for taking part in the protest.
This is the latest incident of Germany’s authorities violently suppressing pro-Palestine demonstrations and activists.
Earlier, in February, German police cracked down on protesters demonstrating against Israel’s genocide in Gaza for using Arabic chants, TRT world reported.
Authorities have also banned protests in Arabic or any other languages other than German or English, requiring speeches, music and chants to be in the two languages, according to New Arab.
Authorities have justified the language ban as necessary for maintaining "public safety”, saying that there are not many Arabic-speaking officers to translate the chants or speeches.
