Hundreds of activists on board were arrested, sparking outrage and a wave of solidarity actions that quickly spread worldwide.

On Thursday, Oct. 2, protests erupted in several countries around the world after Israel intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla, a convoy of ships carrying activists and humanitarian aid to Gaza, in international waters.
Hundreds of activists on board were arrested, sparking outrage and a wave of solidarity actions that quickly spread worldwide.
The ships carrying approximately 458 people included high profile activists such as Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, who is the grandson of the late Nelson Mandela and Nobel Peace Prize winner Mairead Corrigan.
Thousands of people took to the streets calling on their governments to introduce further sanctions against Israel for attacking the fleet in international waters, urging them to call on Israel to release the detained flotilla activists and help end the genocide.
Protests against Israel’s seizure of the Global Sumud Flotilla have so far been reported in Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Finland, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Australia and Tunisia.
Israel deported four Italian citizens on Friday, Oct. 3. “Already four Italian citizens have been deported. The rest are in the process of being deported. Israel is keen to end this procedure as quickly as possible,” said the Israeli government in a statement.
