American Band Green Day Changed The Lyrics To Its Song At Coachella To Stand With Palestine
This is not the first time Green Day has shown its support for Palestine; in February, Armstrong draped the Palestine flag around himself during a concert in Malaysia.

American rock band Green Day showed its support for Palestine during its first-ever Coachella performance by changing the lyrics to their song “Jesus from Suburbia” to condemn Israel's genocide in Gaza.
The rock band performed 16 songs during its headline set at Coachella on Saturday, April 12, and made more than one political statement.
Before singing its song “Holiday,” lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong said, “This song is anti-war, ceasefire.” Then, while singing “Jesus from Suburbia”, Armstrong sang "runnin' away from pain like the kids from Palestine, tales from another broken home” instead of the original lyrics, "runnin' away from pain when you've been victimized.
The change, which highlighted the plight of Palestinian children in Israel’s war on Gaza that has killed more than 50,983 people, including at least 18,000 children, drew cheers from the crowd.
This is not the first time Green Day has shown its support for Palestine; in February, Armstrong draped the Palestine flag around himself during a concert in Malaysia.
In 2024, during its performance at Corona Capital in Mexico City, the band also changed parts of the lyrics of “Jesus in Suburbia,” saying “We are the kids of war and peace from Palestine to the Middle East,” instead of “From Anaheim to the Middle East.”
Green Day also criticized US President Donald Trump during its performance, changing the lyrics of “American Idiot,” a song released in 2004 that criticizes America post-9/11, from "I'm not a part of a redneck agenda" to "I'm not part of the MAGA agenda".
In another performance during the band’s Savior tour in Australia in March, Armstrong changed the lyrics to “Jesus in Suburbia” again, singing "Am I retarded or am I just JD Vance?" instead of "Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed?"
This came after Trump and Vice President JD Vance had a massive argument with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting at the White House.
People online praised Green Day’s Coachella performance.
“Love that they’re using their voice and keeping things relevant to make a statement and advocate for others,” a fan said.
