The Three Israeli Women Hostages Released By Hamas Have Safely Reunited With Their Families
The women are Romi Gonen, 24, Emily Damari, 28, and Doron Shtanbar Khair, 31.
Hamas released three Israeli women hostages on Sunday, Jan. 19, as part of the first phase of the ceasefire deal.
The women are Romi Gonen, 24, Emily Damari, 28, and Doron Shtanbar Khair, 31.
A video released by the armed wing of Hamas showed its fighters giving the three women gift bags and certificates before handing them over to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza as crowds of Palestinians watched on.
The three women were then reunited with their families at Sheba Medical Center in Israel.
They are in stable condition and are expected to stay at the hospital for several days for evaluation, according to the Times of Israel.
The ceasefire officially began on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 11:15 am local time in Gaza.
Hamas is expected to release another 30 hostages during the period of six weeks.
Israel has also released 90 Palestinians from Israeli prisons late at night on the same day from the 2,000 Palestinians it is expected release during the first phase.
This phase includes a halt in fighting after 15 months of Israel’s genocide in Gaza that has killed more than 47,035 people.
However, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel has the right to resume fighting during the second phase of the deal with the US' “full backing”.
