The Body Of Six-Year-Old Hind, Who Was Killed By Israeli Forces, Has Been Found In A Destroyed Car 12 Days Later
“My heart is completely destroyed over this girl,” Hind’s mother, Wissam Hamadah, said in an emotional interview with Al Jazeera.
The bodies of six-year-old Hind Rajab, a Palestinian girl who went missing in Gaza after Israel attacked her family’s car, and the two Red Crescent paramedics who went to rescue, have been found after 12 days.
Hind and her extended family had been fleeing Gaza on Monday Jan. 20, when Israeli forces started shooting at their car.
Her older cousin, 15-year-old Layan Hamadeh, then called the Palestinian Red Crescent for help as gunfire can be heard breaking out.
Hind had survived the initial attack on Jan. 20 and had been on the phone with Red Crescent workers while trapped in the car with her dead relatives.
After the Red Crescent pinpointed her location, they sent an ambulance to rescue her, but then lost contact with the ambulance crew.
Hind’s body was found 12 days later on Saturday Feb. 10, decomposing in the car with her relatives’ bodies.
The Red Crescent ambulance was found bombed, just meters away from Hind’s family’s car, and the paramedics, Yusuf Al-Zeino and Ahmed Al-Madhoun, were both killed.
No one had been able to reach the site due to the presence of Israeli forces.
Hind’s mother, Wissam Hamadah, inspected her daughter’s body upon its arrival at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City on Feb. 10.
“My heart is completely destroyed over this girl. It’s been two weeks since they were killed, two weeks she was in that car,” Hamadah said in an emotional interview with Al Jazeera.
“She’s been martyred in the car for two weeks. No one’s looked for her,” she said, condemning human rights organizations for not going to look for her daughter.
According to Al Jazeera, the bodies of Hind, her uncle, aunt and three cousins including Layan, Al-Zeino and Al-Madhoun were found inside the two destroyed vehicles after the Israeli forces withdrew from the Tel Al-Hawa area.
Video footage shared by the Red Crescent showed the car Hind was in was completely riddled with bullet holes, while the ambulance had been destroyed after being bombed.
The Red Crescent said that Israeli forces had deliberately targeted its ambulance when it was just meters away from reaching Hind.
