This Indian model faked her death to raise awareness for cervical cancer and people are not happy.
On Friday Feb. 2nd, Poonam Pandey’s team shared on her Instagram that the 32-year-old erotic actress had died after battling cervical cancer, shocking her fans.
Just a day after the news of her death, Pandey shared a video on Instagram, revealing that she was alive.
She said that although she didn’t die of cervical cancer, she could not say that about the hundreds of thousands of women who did.
She added that cervical cancer is preventable and urged women to undergo testing and receive an HPV vaccine.
She also apologized to those who were upset by the news of her death, saying she only wanted to raise awareness about the life-threatening disease.
The news of her fake death sparked outrage, with people criticizing her for using a serious illness in an elaborate publicity stunt.
Pandey, however, has stood by her actions, saying that she had no intention of causing harm, as her mother also suffered from cancer.
Following the backlash, the agency behind the stunt also issued a “heartfelt apology,” but still defended its actions, saying that it successfully sparked a conversation about the disease.
