Here are all the inspiring women you should know about this week.
1. Miss Thailand Anna Sueangam-iam
Miss Universe Thailand Anna Sueangam-iam paid a meaningful tribute to her garbage collector parents at the Miss Universe 2022 pageant by wearing an upcycled dress made from used pull tabs from soda cans.
“This gown was inspired by the familiar surroundings of my childhood,” Sueangam-iam wrote on Instagram. “Growing up with garbage collector parents, my life as a child was among piles of garbage and recyclables.”
“This unique gown was purposefully tailored-made with discarded and recycled materials, namely the ‘Can Tab’ to present to the UNIVERSE that what’s considered worthless by many actually possesses its own value and beauty,” she wrote.
2. Colombian Singer Shakira
Days after breaking the YouTube record for biggest debut for a Latin song for her new song, a diss aimed at her former husband, Spanish football player Gerard Piqué, Shakira has reportedly put up a witch on her balcony facing her ex-mother-in-law’s house and is blasting the song on repeat.
The 45-year-old Colombian singer released her latest song, “BZRP Music Sessions #53”, a collaboration with Argentine DJ Bizarrap, on Wednesday Jan. 11.
3. Women In Pakistan
Women in Pakistan are calling for justice after a court freed a convicted rapist after he agreed to marry his victim. The woman is deaf and ended up giving birth to his baby.
The 25-year-old man, Dawlat Khan, had been sentenced to life in prison in May 2022 for raping the woman in 2020.
Khan was freed on Dec. 29, 2022, after he and the victim’s family struck a deal outside the court with the intervention of a local council of elders.
4. British Actress Kate Winslet
British actor Kate Winslet gave an inspiring pep talk to a young girl reporter who had been nervous about interviewing her during the press tour for the film, “Avatar: The Way Of Water”.
