Iran's Military Said The US Is "Negotiating With Itself" After Trump Claimed They Had Good Talks To End The War
"The strategic power you used to talk about has turned into a strategic failure. Don't dress up your defeat as an agreement."
After US President Donald Trump said the US has “very good conversations” with Iran to end the war, Iran's military has denied any peace talks, saying the US is "negotiating with itself."
On Monday, March 23, Trump announced the US was negotiating with Iran to end the war and postponed strikes on Iran’s power plants by five days after what he called productive conversations.
Trump said the US has offered a 15-point plan to Iran, submitted through intermediaries from Pakistan, who have also offered to host renewed negotiations.
The plan reportedly includes dismantling all Iranian nuclear capabilities, a commitment to stop pursuing nuclear weapons and guarantees that the Strait of Hormuz would be declared a free maritime zone.
Trump had also told reporters that the Strait of Hormuz would be managed by him and Iran.
In response, Iran's armed forces spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaqari said the US was negotiating with itself.
"People like us can never get along with people like you," Zolfaqari said, addressing Trump. "The strategic power you used to talk about has turned into a strategic failure. Don't dress up your defeat as an agreement."
Iran has also raised its own demands for any deal, reportedly including the closure of all US military bases in the Gulf, reparations for the attacks and an end to Israel's strikes on Hezbollah in Lebanon.
