Israel Has Finally Admitted It Killed Over 70,000 Palestinians In Gaza After Denying The Number For Two Years
According to the ministry, Israel has killed more than 71,800 Palestinians since the “ceasefire” began.
A senior Israeli military official has said Israel now accepts the death toll from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, admitting it killed more than 71,000 Palestinians since it began its genocide in Gaza, Israeli media reported.

Israel has spent the last two years denying and attempting to cast doubt on the death toll from its genocide in Gaza, even though figures from the Gaza Health ministry have consistently proven to be credible in the past and have “held up to UN scrutiny, independent investigations and even Israel’s tallies,” according to AP.

According to the ministry, Israel has killed more than 71,800 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and an additional 526 Palestinians since the “ceasefire” began on Oct. 10, 2025.

The figures have been deemed reliable by the UN and other human rights organizations and have been widely cited by international media as the most accurate death toll. They were also cited in research published in medical journal, The Lancet, which warned that indirect deaths caused by disease, starvation and the collapse of healthcare systems could push the true toll far higher.

Israel, however, has consistently disputed the death toll, claiming it had killed 1,600 Hamas fighters since Oct. 7, 2023, and a further 22,000 combatants during its genocide.

It also claimed that it only killed two or three civilians for every militant.

Israeli media reported on Thursday, Jan. 30, that a senior Israeli military source said the total number published by Gaza’s health ministry is largely accurate, but Israeli authorities have been unable to break down the number of civilians to Hamas combatants killed.

Following the publication of the articles by Israeli media, an Israeli military official sought to distance the army from the coverage, saying the details published did not reflect official military data.
“Any publication or report on this matter will be released through official and orderly channels,” the official said.
