Israel’s Far-Right Security Minister Was Filmed Taunting Palestinian Prisoners And Calling For Their Death
“Look at them today, they receive only the bare minimum here, but there is still something we have to do – death penalty for the terrorists,” Ben-Gvir said.
Israel’s far-right national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir shared a video of himself taunting Palestinian prisoners and calling for them to be executed to death.
The video Ben-Gvir shared on Friday, Oct. 31, showed him standing over a row of Palestinian prisoners lying face down on the ground with their hands tied behind their back, while Ben-Gvir boasted about the bad conditions the Palestinians are living in but still calling for their execution.
“Look at them today, they receive only the bare minimum here, but there is still something we have to do – death penalty for the terrorists,” Ben-Gvir said.
Ben Gvir has repeatedly bragged about the harsh conditions Palestinians face in Israeli prisons and was filmed recently taunting prominent jailed Palestinian politician, Marwan Barghouti, in his prison cell.
Ben-Gvir’s latest threats come as the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, is set to vote on a bill he proposed that calls for Palestinian detainees to be executed.
Ben-Gvir has threatened to withdraw his support from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition if the bill is not passed.
He has also condemned the recent release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners as part of the hostage deal, calling it “a moral and strategic failure,” saying there are no more excuses to delay the legislation.
The proposed bill has already been discussed and approved in preliminary readings but is awaiting a full Knesset vote to be enacted into law.
Rights groups called it a legislative entrenchment of systematic repression and a violation of international law, which generally prohibits the death penalty.
Reports from various human rights organizations and Palestinian sources confirm that Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody are subjected to widespread and systematic torture, physical and sexual violence, including electric shocks, waterboarding, suspension, severe beatings, starvation, medical neglect, gang-rape and other brutal treatments.
The UN has documented at least 75 Palestinian detainees dying in Israeli prisons since Oct. 7, 2023.
