Palestinian authorities said an Israeli airstrike hit the Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City where civilians had been seeking shelter and killed at least 500 people.
Israel has bombed a hospital in Gaza and killed at least 500 people, according to Palestinian officials.
Palestinian authorities said an Israeli airstrike hit the Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City where civilians had been seeking shelter on Tuesday Oct 17.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said that at least 500 people had been killed.
The ministry said that hundreds of victims remain trapped under the rubble and the death toll is expected to rise
An Israeli military spokesperson said it was “checking” if it was responsible for the blast.
A later statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said another militant group was responsible for the bombing.
“The hospital was hit as a result of a failed rocket launched by the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization,” Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said.
Islamic Jihad has denied the allegation.
“What happened tonight is a huge tragedy and war ugly massacre that cannot be tolerated or allowed to pass without accountability,” Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, said and blamed Israel for the airstrike.
The death toll of the incident is the highest since the war started on Oct. 7.
A school run by the United Nations that was housing refugees was also struck earlier in the day, killing six people, according to Al Jazeera.
