Israel Bombed Near A Kindergarten In Gaza While Children Were Playing During A Mental Health Event
"Unfortunately, all of the healing we did today was immediately undone."
An Israeli airstrike struck an area near a kindergarten in North Gaza on Dec. 19, when children were playing games and dancing during a mental health support event, turning the joyous moment into one of panic and fear.
The incident took place during an event initiated by "Translating Falasteen x The Sameer Project”– a fundraising group for families in Gaza – to help boost children's mental health as Israel continues its genocide in Gaza.
At the time of the attack, many children were playing what appeared to be a game of circle as shown in a video that has gone viral on social media.
Suddenly, an explosion near the kindergarten turned the children's laughter into panicked screams as they scrambled for safety, shouting and crying.
As the children tried to hide by running from one place to another, a voice in the video could be heard telling them to remain still and not go outside.
In a social media post, the Translating Falasteen x The Sameer Project team confirmed that no children in the kindergarten were hurt.
“These moments of panic and fear have become extremely common in these children’s life,” they wrote.
“Unfortunately, all of the healing we did today was immediately undone”, the group added.
It said that it would be returning to the same kindergarten soon so that children can have hope for a brighter future.
Israel’s genocide in Gaza has now killed more than 17,000 children since Oct. 7, according to Al Jazeera.
About half of these children are yet to be fully identified, partially due to their bodies being harmed beyond recognition, according to the Palestinian ministry of health in Gaza.
In fact, of more than 45,000 people who have been killed in Gaza since Oct. 7, children make up about 40%, according to the UN.
