Israel Confirmed It Has Bombed Gaza’s Largest Refugee Camp, Killing Hundreds Of Palestinians
Israeli forces confirmed it was behind the attack on the densely populated Jabalia refugee camp, saying it was targeting a senior Hamas commander.
Israel has bombed Gaza’s largest refugee camp, where thousands of Palestinians were sheltering, killing hundreds of people and injuring hundreds more.
Israeli forces confirmed it was behind the attack on the densely populated Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza on Tuesday Oct. 31, saying it was targeting a senior Hamas commander.
Israeli officials said that it had killed the commander, but a Hamas spokesperson said that he had not been in the area, where civilians had been sheltering.
Footage of the aftermath of the attack showed large craters in the ground and people carrying injured victims through piles of rubble.
A doctor told Al Jazeera that more than 50 people had been killed but his hospital was still counting the victims so could not yet provide a total.
Footage on social media showed dozens of bodies wrapped in body bags, and local doctors said that hundreds of people had been injured and killed.
Palestinian officials said that most of the victims were women and children.
Israel said the strike was a “wide-scale” attack.
The attack drew widespread international condemnation, with rights groups reiterating calls for an immediate ceasefire.
Overnight, internet services were cut again across Gaza, according to Al Jazeera.
At least 8,525 people, including more than 3,500 children, have been killed in Gaza since fighting began on Oct. 7, according to Palestinian officials.
