Israel Has Targeted And Bombed World Central Kitchen’s Car In Gaza Again, Killing Three Aid Workers
This is the second time Israel attacked WCK in Gaza.
On Saturday, Nov. 30, Israel targeted and bombed a World Central Kitchen (WCK) vehicle in Khan Younis in Gaza, killing at least five people, including three aid workers.
The vehicle was delivering food supplies along Salah al-Din Road in Khan Younis and was clearly marked as belonging to WCK, witnesses told Al Jazeera.
The Israeli military said the vehicle was carrying a wanted militant allegedly involved in Hamas’ Oct. 7 surprise attack on Israel..
However, WCK said it had “no knowledge” that any of the people in the vehicle were involved in the attack.
Following the latest bombing, WCK announced it is temporarily suspending its operations in Gaza as it seeks further information about the attack.
“World Central Kitchen is pausing operations in Gaza at this time. Our hearts are with our colleagues and their families in this unimaginable moment,” it said in a statement.
Israel has been repeatedly obstructing aid deliveries to Gaza, attacking aid and aid workers, intentionally depriving Palestinians of essential resources such as food, water and fuel.
This is the second time Israel attacked WCK in Gaza.
In April, it bombed a WCK convoy while it was delivering aid, killing all seven aid workers who were in the cars.
Israel has also banned the UNRWA, the lifeblood of aid for Palestinians in Gaza, labeling it a terrorist organization and killed at least 237 UNRWA workers, the most UN workers killed in the entire history of the organization.
Recently, a UN committee found that Israel is systematically and illegally obstructing humanitarian aid for military objectives, employing starvation as a tactic of warfare.
Deliberately targeting aid workers is a war crime under international humanitarian law, also known as the rules of war.
