Israel Is Besieging One Of The Last Hospitals In North Gaza, Bombing It While Its Director Was In An Interview
Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya himself was injured on Nov. 24 by shrapnel from an Israeli drone strike while he was taking care of patients.
Israeli drones struck Kamal Adwan Hospital while Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, was conducting an interview.
On Dec. 24, Abu Safiya was giving an interview about the dire conditions at Kamal Adwan hospital, which Israeli forces have been besieging and heavily bombing, with 20 patients injured from bomb shrapnel the day before.
Abu Safiya said that the hospital had been subjected to ongoing shelling and attacks throughout the night, and in the background of his interview, loud explosions could be heard.
Abu Safiya himself was injured on Nov. 24 by shrapnel from an Israeli drone strike while he was taking care of patients.
Abu Safiya said the situation was “horrifying,” adding that it is nearly impossible to comply with Israeli evacuation orders, given that approximately 400 civilians, including babies needing incubators, remain inside the hospital, according to Al Jazeera.
He called on the international community to act before it is too late, adding he “will stay and serve those who are here.”
Since Israel began besieging north Gaza on Oct. 6, it has been attacking Kamal Adwan hospital, which is one of only two hospitals still operational in northern Gaza, damaging the hospital, killing and injuring doctors, medical staff, patients and civilians including children.
