One day after releasing 90 Palestinians as part of the ceasefire deal, Israel arrested 60 other Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

On Monday, Jan. 20, the Israeli forces launched a raid on the town of Azzun in Qalqilya in the occupied West Bank.

“The occupation forces stormed homes and a mosque, detaining 64 residents, including children,” said Fares Al-Azzouni, a journalist and activist, told Anadolu Agency, adding that one was 7 years old.

Viral photos and videos shared on social media showed the Israeli army forcing dozens of Palestinians to walk in a line and lie face down on the street.

Since the Gaza ceasefire went into effect on Sunday, Jan. 19, Israel's military has intensified arrests and movement restrictions in the occupied West Bank, according to Al Jazeera.

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Israeli army announced it had launched a military operation in Jenin in the occupied West Bank.

An Israeli military source told the Times of Israel that the raid, called "Operation Iron Wall" was expected to go on for "at least several days", Al Jazeera reported.

Israel's far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said the goal of the raid was to "change the security situation" in the occupied West Bank, adding it would target "terror elements and their enablers" to protect Israeli settlers and settlements.

Writing on X, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the wide-scale military operation is aimed at eliminating terrorism in Jenin, adding that it is another step towards achieving Israel's goal of "strengthening security" in the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said Israeli forces were blocking their access to the area and it had treated seven people who were injured by live ammunition.

The operation has already killed seven Palestinians and injured about 35 others, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, Israeli settlers, with the protection of Israeli forces, have also launched several attacks on Palestinian towns in the occupied West Bank, torching vehicles and houses and injuring at least 21 Palestinians.
