Israel Has Launched New Attacks On Southern Lebanon, Violating Its Ceasefire With Hezbollah Again

Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to a ceasefire in November 2024, but Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire since, attacking southern Lebanon multiple times.

At the same time it officially began its full takeover of Gaza City, Israel has now launched a new series of attacks on southern Lebanon, claiming it is targeting Hezbollah infrastructure despite its ceasefire with the group.

Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to a ceasefire in November 2024, more than two months after Israel launched a full-scale war against Hezbollah on Sept. 19, 2024, following a year of cross-border clashes since Oct. 7, 2023.

However, Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire since, attacking southern Lebanon multiple times.

On Thursday, Sept. 18, the Israeli army issued evacuation warnings to five densely populated towns in southern Lebanon, including Mays al-Jabal, Kfar Tebnit, Dibbin, Chehabiyeh and Burj Qalaouiyah, before it struck multiple locations and residential buildings in the area.

Israel said its attacks were in response to Hezbollah's “attempts to rebuild its activities in the area.”

Then on Friday, Sept. 19, Israel bombed a vehicle outside a hospital, killing one person and injuring 11 others, and killed another person in a separate attack, Lebanon’s health ministry reported.

Lebanese president Joseph Aoun and prime minister Nawaf Salam both condemned Israel’s attacks and “intimidation and aggressions” violating the ceasefire, which "encourages further aggression".

"The time has come to put an immediate end to these blatant violations of Lebanon's sovereignty," Aoun said.

The US, Saudi Arabia and Hezbollah's domestic rivals have been pressuring the Lebanese government to force Hezbollah to disarm.

But Lebanon's army said Israel had violated the ceasefire 4,500 times following its latest strikes, adding it is obstructing efforts to disarm Hezbollah, according to Arabic outlet Asharq Al-Awsat.

Hezbollah said it would be a serious misstep even to discuss disarmament while Israel is continuing airstrikes on Lebanon and occupying swaths of territory in its south.

Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah said Lebanon and its people needed no further proof that there were no international or diplomatic guarantees to stop "Israel's terrorism," according to Reuters.

Meanwhile, Israel is intensifying its attacks across Gaza, particularly in Gaza City, after it officially began its full take over of the city, killing more than 54,208 Palestinians, mostly women and children, since Oct. 7, 2023.
