Israel is now ordering Palestinians who already fled to south Gaza to evacuate again.
The Israeli military began dropping leaflets on Wednesday Nov. 15, warning residents in Khan Younis, the biggest city in southern Gaza, and nearby towns to evacuate “for their own safety.”
Israeli authorities said troops now need to enter Khan Younis to remove Hamas fighters from underground and did not want to see “civilians caught in the crossfire.”
It is unclear where civilians are supposed to go because Israel has been bombing all parts of the Gaza Strip, including the South, where it told civilians to evacuate to “for their safety” on Nov. 8.
The United Nations has said that “nowhere is safe” in Gaza.
Israeli airstrikes and a ground offensive has killed more than 14,000 Palestinians, including more than 5,000 children, since Oct. 7.
More than 70% of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million have lost their homes.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted that there will be no permanent ceasefire until all of its hostages are released and it completely dismantles Hamas.
Many Palestinians say they are fearful this will be another Nakba, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were expelled from their lands during the creation of Israel in 1948.
