After The ICJ Ordered Israel To Stop Attacking Rafah, It Bombed A Camp There And Burned Palestinians Alive
Israeli forces dropped 2,000-pound bombs on a displacement camp in the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood near a UNRWA warehouse, killing at least 40 Palestinians and injuring many more, mostly women and children.
After the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to immediately halt its military assault on Rafah, Israel instead bombed a displacement camp in the southern city, which was supposedly a designated safe zone, burning Palestinians alive.
On the evening of Sunday, May 26, two days after the ICJ’s latest order, Israeli forces dropped 2,000-pound bombs on a displacement camp in the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood near a UNRWA warehouse, killing at least 40 Palestinians and injuring many more, mostly women and children.
Thousands of people had evacuated to the camp from the eastern parts of Rafah after Israel ordered them to leave earlier in May ahead of its invasion.
Videos and photos circulating social media showed graphic scenes of scattered and burned bodies, as well as people holding up the bodies of children whose heads had been blown off.
The Israeli military took responsibility for the attack, saying the camp was a Hamas compound and that the strike was carried out with “precise ammunition and on the basis of precise intelligence.”
It was just one of 10 targeted attacks by the Israeli military on displacement centers in Gaza affiliated with UNRWA over 24 hours.
Palestinian officials said the attacks are a “clear message” from Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the global community that “the massacres against displaced persons and children will continue, and that breaking international law will not stop”.
The ICJ has ordered Israel on May 24, to immediately halt its attacks on Rafah in southern Gaza.
Israel has violated all the previous rulings of the ICJ to prevent genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
A senior Hamas official described the attack in Rafah as a “massacre”, saying it holds the US responsible for aiding Israel with weapons and money.
According to the UN, “for people in Gaza, nowhere is safe now.”
Israel’s ongoing attacks on Gaza killed more than 35,000 Palestinians and injured more than 80,000, mostly women and children.
