Israeli Police Raided Palestinians’ Christmas Celebrations In Israel And Arrested Santa Claus

Israeli police claimed they were responding to “unusual noise,” according to Middle East Eye.⁠

Israeli police stormed Christmas celebrations in a predominantly Palestinian neighborhood in Haifa, northern Israel, and arrested a Palestinian man dressed as Santa Claus.

Videos showed Israeli police on Sunday, Dec. 21, dispersing Palestinians’ Christmas celebrations in the Wadi Nisnas neighborhood, storming the area, beating people and disrupting the traditional dabke people were dancing during the event.

Another video showed the police violently arresting three Palestinian men, including a man wearing a Santa Claus costume, a DJ and a street vendor.

All three men were released on Monday but face potential court summons.

The Mossawa Centre, which advocates for Palestinian rights in Israel, reported that police also raided a music institute without legal authorization.

Mossawa said the detainees were reportedly violently assaulted by the police and one of them sustained a shoulder injury.⁠

Police claimed the man dressed as Santa Claus resisted arrest and assaulted and verbally abused an officer.⁠
