The Israeli army stormed Tulkarem in a major raid in the occupied West Bank on Sept. 11, dragging away every Palestinian man they could capture and detaining more than 100.
Videos shared online showed Palestinian men forced into lines, walking single file with their hands on the shoulders of the person in front as troops surrounded them.
The raid came after Israeli said two of its soldiers were injured when their vehicles were hit by “an explosive device” earlier in the day, according to Al Jazeera.
Following the incident, Israeli troops also imposed a curfew and sealed off movement in and out of the city.
Israel has been launching a campaign of violence in the occupied West Bank since Sept. 8, after six people were killed in a shooting in occupied East Jerusalem.
Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack, and both suspects were killed.
In response, Israel ordered the demolition of the suspects’ homes and stripped their relatives of work and entry permits, part of a pattern rights groups call “collective punishment”.
The West Bank has been illegally occupied by the Israeli military since 1967, with Israel retaining primary control over many aspects of life, including borders, natural resources, airspace, movement of people and goods, security and the population registry.
Israel has been attacking Palestinians in the West Bank long before Oct. 7, but since the beginning of its genocide in Gaza, it has intensified its military operations in the West Bank, holding near daily raids.
It has killed at least 1,000 Palestinians, injured at least 9,239 others, arrested thousands and demolished hundreds of homes and civilian infrastructure in the West Bank since Oct. 7, according to Al Jazeera.
Israel’s genocide has killed more than 64,605 Palestinians in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023.
