A New Investigation Has Revealed Israel’s Military Shot At Six-Year-Old Palestinian Girl Hind 355 Times
A new investigation found that Israeli tanks had fired at Hind’s family car, knowing children were inside.
A new investigation has revealed that Israeli forces fired 355 bullets at the car containing six-year-old Palestinian girl, Hind Rajab.
An investigation conducted by research group Forensic Architecture alongside Earshot and journalists from Al Jazeera’s Fault Lines on June 21 found that Israeli tanks had fired at Hind’s family car, knowing they were inside it.
The bodies of Hind and her six relatives were found killed inside their vehicle, a Kia Picanto, 12 days after the car was attacked.
The bodies of the two paramedics who had been dispatched to rescue Hind were also found in their ambulance about 50 meters away from Hind’s family car.
Hind and her extended family had been fleeing Gaza on Monday, Jan. 20, when Israeli forces started shooting at their car.
Her cousin 15-year-old Layan Hamadeh, the only survivor in the car with Hind at the time, then called the Palestinian Red Crescent for help, saying “They are shooting at us. The tank is next to me,” before gunshots can be heard and Layan starts screaming.
In the final moments that Layan’s voice is heard, a total of 64 gunshots can be heard, fired in just six seconds, according to an analysis of the recording by Earshot.
The investigation found that the range of rounds per minute is consistent with weapons issued by the Israeli army.
The investigation indicated that the Israeli tank had to be positioned within a close range of 13 to 23 meters of the car when it fired the shots that killed Layan.
It added that “at such proximity, it is not plausible that the shooter could not have seen that the car was occupied by civilians, including children.”
The investigation findings sparked outrage on social media, with people pointing out that the world would react differently if Hind had been a white girl.
“They shot at Hind 355 times. If she were white, the whole world would be enraged,” @khaledbeydoun, a popular Instagram account wrote in a post that has since gone viral with more than 305,000 likes.
