Israeli Soldiers Were Filmed Killing Two Unarmed Palestinian Men In The West Bank After They Surrendered
The Israeli military said its troops had pursued wanted individuals who were “affiliated with a terror network” in the Jenin area and had “initiated a surrender procedure that lasted several hours,” Reuters reported.
Israeli soldiers were filmed shooting and killing two unarmed Palestinian men after they had surrendered in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
The footage shot on Thursday, Nov. 27, showed Israeli soldiers surrounding the two men who had left a building with their hands in the air, lifted their shirts to show they were unarmed and then lying on the ground in an apparent surrender.
The soldiers were then seen kicking and hitting the men on the ground before ordering the men to go back inside the building and opening fire at close range, killing them.
The Palestinian health ministry identified the two men who were killed as 26-year-old Montasir Abdullah and 37-year-old Yusuf Asasa.
The Israeli military said in a statement that its troops had pursued wanted individuals who were “affiliated with a terror network” in the Jenin area and had “initiated a surrender procedure that lasted several hours,” Reuters reported.
The statement said that after the men exited the building, “fire was directed towards the suspects”, adding, “the incident is under review by the commanders on the ground, and will be transferred to the relevant professional bodies.”
Israel's far-right national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir later said on X that he gives his "full backing" to the military and the police unit that was involved in the shooting.
"The fighters acted exactly as expected of them - terrorists should die!," he wrote on X.
Israel had launched a months-long campaign across northern West Bank cities, claiming the operation aims to root out Palestinian armed groups
On Wednesday, Nov. 26, Israel deployed attack helicopters and drones in raids across the northern West Bank and laid siege to large swaths of the northeastern Tubas governorate on Thursday, according to Al Jazeera.
Israel has injured at least 25 Palestinians and detained 100 others since the Israeli incursion began on Wednesday.
Palestinians say the military has carried out indiscriminate attacks against civilians, blocked journalists and ambulances and damaged infrastructure.
