Israeli Media Used A Photo Of This Israeli Woman And Falsely Claimed She Was Killed In Protests In Iran
Noya Zion said the incident was “stressful” to her, adding “it is journalistic negligence not to check something before publishing it.”
Israeli media used a photo of an Israeli woman to falsely claim she was killed in anti-government protests in Iran, but the woman turned out to be alive and has no connection to Iran.
Noya Zion shared a video of her reaction on Monday, Jan. 26, when she saw her photo on Israel's Channel 12 during a news segment claiming she was one of four Jews killed in protests in Iran.
Zion appeared shocked in the video, saying, "I'm in my home! What is going on?”, adding she was heading to training soon.
Channel 12 did not issue an apology but later said that images of the alleged Jewish victims had been spreading on social media worldwide, including in Israel, according to Turkiye Today.
In another video, Zion said the incident was “stressful” to her, adding “it is journalistic negligence not to check something before publishing it.”
“It doesn't matter if it was published in Israel. It doesn't matter if it was published internationally. If you are a journalist and you haven't checked what you publish, that's a problem. Especially since it concerns people's lives and deaths,” Zion said.
Zion’s video has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism of Israeli media and the Israeli government for spreading lies and propaganda.
