This American Economist Slammed The US, Saying It’s Only Going To War With Iran Because It Works For Israel
"If there is such a war, it's a war because Israel has told the United States what to do".
Renowned American economist Jeffrey Sachs appeared in a podcast and delivered a blistering critique of US foreign policy and the US’ war on Iran, saying the war is not out of national interest but because it "works for Israel."
The interview took place just days before the US and Israel launched a joint unprovoked war on Iran on Feb. 28, to “obliterate” Iran’s nuclear ambitions and for regime change.
The US and Israel’s strikes on Iran have killed at least 1,332 people as of Sunday, March 8, leading Iran to launch retaliatory attacks on Israel and neighboring countries with US bases, plunging the region into war and chaos.
During the interview on Feb. 23, Sachs dismantled the US narrative about its reason to attack Iran, saying it was never about nuclear weapons.
Sachs said that Iran had already negotiated and abided by the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), placing its nuclear program under strict UN supervision.
According to Sachs, it was the US and Israel that "destroyed the agreement," and despite Iran's repeated willingness to return to negotiations, the US has refused to accept "yes for an answer".
"Everything that is being said is a lie. Not surprisingly, the United States government lies for a living," Sachs said, adding, "We have no interest whatsoever in going to a war with Iran right now. If there is such a war, it's a war because Israel has told the United States what to do".
He said that this raises a fundamental question: "Why has the United States done what Israel has told the United States to do for 30 years?"
“Maybe because it's of Mike Huckabee's parishioners, because of people who read the Bible and say, “okay, that's our foreign policy.” That's possible. It may be because of what's in the Epstein files that haven't been released. It may be blackmail, it may be corruption, it may be many other things, but it is not about America's interests,” Sachs said.
He said the real reason for the war was Israel's drive for "military hegemony in the Middle East," which cannot be achieved without the US backing.
Sachs warned that this war “could become World War III” and of severe economic repercussions, particularly if Iran disrupts shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, saying Europe, India and China would pay the highest price.
He also criticized mainstream media outlets like the New York Times for engaging in propaganda, omitting key diplomatic developments, and failing to report on US officials openly admitting to policies designed to "crush the Iranian economy."
