Kuwait Has Accidentally Shot Down Three US Fighter Jets Taking Part In The US And Israel’s War Against Iran
The statement said the six fighter pilots on the three F-15E Strike Eagles all ejected themselves safely and are in a stable condition.
On Sunday, Mar. 1, Kuwaiti air defense accidentally shot down three US fighter jets in an “apparent friendly fire incident” as the jets were taking part in the US’ war against Iran.
“During active combat — that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones — the US Air Force fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses,” the US military’s Central Command said in a statement on Monday, March 2.
The statement said the six fighter pilots on the three F-15E Strike Eagles all ejected themselves safely and are in a stable condition.
One viral video on X, appears to show a US military member in the back of a car, surrounded by Kuwaiti military personnel.
Another clip circulating online was filmed by a member of the public, showing a US soldier on a beach with his parachute still attached to him.
The incident happened as Iran has been retaliating against the US and Israel’s attack and assassination of its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by targeting American military bases throughout the Persian Gulf.
This has prompted several Gulf countries’ militaries, including that of Kuwait, to mobilize their air defenses to try to deter the strikes.
Kuwait’s defense ministry said a number of US military aircraft had crashed early Monday and crew members had been evacuated to hospital, according to the New York Times.
Kuwaiti authorities said they are coordinating with the US to investigate the incident.
Aside from the “friendly fire” incident, Kuwait has also recorded civilian casualties from war.
Kuwaiti officials have confirmed that at least one person was killed and 32 others have been injured during Iranian missile and drone attacks, with some people being hurt by falling debris from intercepted projectiles.
The US embassy in Kuwait was also struck by an Iranian drone attack, two US officials told the New York Times, with smoke seen rising near US diplomatic and military sites.
