This Spanish Journalist Reported Israel Allegedly Blocked Arabs From Shelters But Her Channel Removed The Clip
The channel said it had received a message from the Jewish community stating that the claims were false and that all Israeli citizens have equal rights to shelter and protection regardless of ethnicity.
A Spanish journalist reporting live from Israel said Arabs in the country were being blocked from entering bomb shelters during missile alerts, before her channel later issued a correction after receiving complaints about the claim.
On Feb. 28, the US and Israel launched coordinated unprovoked strikes on Iran, prompting Iran to fire missiles towards Israel and neighbouring countries hosting US military bases.
On Friday, March 6, veteran war correspondent Laura de Chiclana was reporting live for the Spanish channel Mediaset after a missile alert in a neighborhood in Haifa, a city in northern Israel.
During the broadcast, she said the area had only one public shelter for the entire neighborhood and that Arabs citizens were not being allowed to enter it.
She also said Arab residents who wanted access were being asked to pay about €50,000 for a private shelter.
Shortly after the broadcast, the channel said it had received a message from the Jewish community stating that the claims were false and that all Israeli citizens have equal rights to shelter and protection regardless of ethnicity.
Mediaset later aired a correction and removed the segment from its platforms, according to Spanish outlet Maldita.es, which reported that the correction was later also deleted from the channel’s website.
Under Israeli civil defense law, all citizens are entitled to access to shelter and protection.
Previously, the New Arab reported that dozens of Palestinians citizens and foreign workers were denied entry to shelters when Iranian missiles struck Israel in June 2025.
A 2023 report by the Israel Democracy Institute also highlighted gaps in civil defense protection between Jewish and Arab communities in northern Israel, saying planning had often prioritized Jewish-majority areas.
