This Canadian Olympic Figure Skater Has Gone Viral For The Ultimate Excuse To Ask For A Homework Extension

Canadian figure skater Madeline Schizas has gone viral for having the ultimate excuse for asking for a homework extension: to represent her country at the winter Olympics.

The 22-year-old athlete, who is also a student at McMaster University in Ontario, realized she had mixed up her due dates on a Sociology assignment while competing for Team Canada in the qualifying round of the Team figure skating event on Friday, Feb.6.

She then shared a photo of an email she sent to her professor to request an extension for her homework on her Instagram stories, with the caption "LOLLLL I ❤️ being a student athlete."

“I am a student in your Sociology 2FF3 course and am wondering if I could get a short extension on this week's reflection. I was competing in the Olympic Games yesterday and thought the reflection was due on Sunday, not Friday,” she wrote in the email, adding a link to the Canadian Olympic Committee press release to confirm her participation.
Her post quickly went viral, with many fans becoming invested.
Schizas later took to Instagram again to confirm that she had indeed gotten an extension, saying “I can't believe anyone cared so much 😭😭“.

Team Canada ended up making it through to the finals, placing fifth overall.
