Star Wars Actor Mark Hamill Voiced An Ukrainian Air Raid Alert, Ending It With “May The Force Be With You”
“Don’t be careless. Your overconfidence is your weakness.”
American Actor Mark Hamill, best known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars movies, has lent his voice to an Ukraine air raid alert app, showing his support for Ukraine.
The app, “Air Alert”, is linked to Ukraine’s air defense system, which warns Ukrainians of possible incoming Russian missiles, bombs or deadly drones.
“Attention. Air raid alert,” Hamill with the gravitas similar to a Jedi knight when the alert goes off.
“Don’t be careless,” Hamill then advises. “Your overconfidence is your weakness.”
After danger has passed, Hamill’s voice then announces that “the air alert is over”, before signing off with the iconic quote from the Star Wars movies, “May the Force be with you.”
The voiceover was first announced as a partnership between the app and United24, a global initiative launched by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to raise funds for Ukraine, with Mark Hamill as one of the ambassadors.
The actor told the AP he admires how Ukraine has “shown such resilience under such terrible circumstances”.
Previously, he has raised funds for Ukraine by raffling off autographed Star Wars posters.
“Here I sit in the comfort of my own home when in Ukraine there are power outages and food shortages and people are really suffering,” he added. “It motivates me to do as much as I can.”
