Fashion’s biggest night returned once again on Monday, May 5, as celebrities stunned audiences at the annual Met Gala in New York City.
This year’s theme, “Tailored For You”, is dedicated to Black menswear and suiting.
It is a nod to the accompanying museum exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which explores the history of Black Dandyism, a cultural and fashion movement through which Black people in America sought to define their identity.
According to Vogue, Black dandyism as “a strategy and a tool to rethink identity, to reimagine the self in a different context. To really push a boundary — especially during the time of enslavement, to really push a boundary on who and what counts as human, even.”
